From structural diagnosis to final polish.
Strong writing starts with strong editorial thinking. Whether your manuscript needs a deep structural rethink or a careful line-by-line refinement, I bring years of professional editing experience and a genuine investment in helping you tell your best story.
manuscript critique
A manuscript critique is the clearest way to understand where your story stands and where it needs to go. It’s a comprehensive, high-level evaluation of your manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses, delivered as detailed margin notes and commentary that give you the insight to make informed decisions about your next steps.

I read your manuscript with the same analytical eye I bring to a full developmental edit, evaluating structure, pacing, character development, voice, dialogue, thematic coherence, and narrative clarity. The difference is in the delivery. Rather than editing the text directly, I annotate the manuscript with observations, questions, and recommendations that put the creative choices in your hands. Where something is working, I tell you why, so you can lean into it. Where something needs attention, I explain the issue, explore what’s driving it, and offer concrete suggestions for how I would approach the fix.

The result is a marked manuscript that functions as both an honest assessment and a practical roadmap. You’ll walk away knowing exactly what’s landing, what isn’t, and what your options are for strengthening the work. It’s an ideal starting point for authors who want expert editorial perspective before committing to a full developmental edit, or for experienced writers who prefer to execute revisions on their own with professional guidance.
developmental editing
Developmental editing is the real hands-on creative work. I edit your manuscript directly, reshaping structure, strengthening character arcs, tightening pacing, refining dialogue, and reworking passages that aren't delivering on their potential. Margin comments accompany significant changes, explaining my reasoning so you understand what I've done and why.

I evaluate every dimension of your story and edit accordingly. Plot and structure, pacing, character development, voice and tone, thematic coherence, point of view, and narrative clarity. Where a scene needs to be restructured, I restructure it. Where dialogue needs sharpening, I sharpen it. Where a chapter's architecture is undermining its emotional impact, I rebuild it. Every edit is grounded in a clear editorial rationale, documented in the margins for your review.

Yet this is still a collaborative process. We discuss the project beforehand, allowing you to share your concerns with the draft and where you'd like me to focus my attention, including any aspects you'd like me to leave as is. So you retain full creative authority over your manuscript, and my tracked changes and comments give you the ability to accept, reject, or adapt each edit based on your own vision for the story. My goal is to hand you back a manuscript that's measurably stronger, along with a clear understanding of the editorial thinking behind every change.
Book coaching
Book coaching transforms the developmental process into a collaborative ongoing partnership. In addition to written editorial analysis, I work with you directly through one-on-one consultation to answer your questions, discuss my recommendations, and help you decide on your writing approach for upcoming chapters.

Leading up to our next call, you send me your latest chapters. I come prepared with a thorough understanding of your manuscript so far and a clear sense of what’s working, what needs attention, and what your options are at each decision point. You bring your vision, your questions, and your instincts. Together, we find the strongest path forward.

My consulting approach is grounded in years of collaborative editorial work. I’ve spent much of my career doing exactly this. Analyzing manuscripts and formulating creative solutions with my superiors, with my peers, or sometimes on my own.
I bring that same rigor and collaborative spirit to every coaching engagement.
line editing
Line editing focuses on the prose itself. Language, rhythm, clarity, dialogue, phrasing, and readability. It sits between developmental editing and copyediting/proofreading, operating at the level of sentences and paragraphs rather than chapters and arcs.

My line edits consider how each sentence serves the ones around it, how each paragraph complements its neighbors, and how the prose supports (or undermines) the story’s tone and pacing. I look for opportunities to tighten, sharpen, and elevate your writing while preserving your voice. You receive an edited manuscript with tracked changes and margin notes explaining the reasoning behind major edits.

This is where we ensure your audience has the best reading experience possible.
copyediting/proofreading
Once you're happy with the story elements of your manuscript, once it flows smoothly at the line level, then it's ready for the final passes before it reaches your audience.

By this stage, depending on a variety of factors, some manuscripts need a copyedit, which focuses mostly on grammar and syntax. This pass ensures there are no remaining speed bumps that distract the reader. Some manuscripts can skip right to the proofreading stage, which focuses on spelling and punctuation. It all depends on how much attention your manuscript needs to give it that final professional polish.

These stages are often the most overlooked. You've been living and breathing your manuscript for months, if not years. You know it inside and out. And so when you read it (again), your brain shows you what you expect to see. Not what's actually on the page.

A professional editor with fresh eyes catches these remaining errors. The result is a level of polish that shows you care about your story every bit as much as you respect your audience.
